Name: Paola di Lanzo
Known For: One of the toughest Barre classes in London
Years in the industry: 25
Instagram: @pbodybarre

“My BodyBarre method is designed to maximise the workout you get from your time in the studio. To elongate, isolate and target specific body parts for a lean, toned body…”

WHAT GOT YOU IN TO BARRE? I was obsessed with ballet when I was little and started classes at the age of
11. At 16, I discovered boys and went to the beach instead! I was a little too old to become a dancer, so I got into fitness instead..

WHAT JOURNEY DID YOU GO ON TO BECOME A TEACHER?
I loved all sports growing up. I was into running, netball, volleyball, baseball, swimming and being an Aussie I was constantly body surfing, boogie boarding and water skiing. I went on to University and became a PE and Health Teacher (Secondary Schools). I soon discovered I didn’t want to be back in the “institution” so went on to become a personal trainer.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BARRE?
PBB barre method gives incredible benefits with the combination of ballet barre conditioning, dynamic pilates, functional training with cardio bursts (hiit intervals). The end result is a strong and stream lined body, strong core, beautiful posture and a booty lift like no other.

Live for the now. Be positive about your future and don’t dwell on the past. It is all mind over matter.

“Congratulations to the gorgeous @camillamackintosh for the launch of her book MADE! Thank you for putting in a few PBB moves!”

BIGGEST LIFE ACHIEVEMENT?
My three children! Sofia 14, George 8 and Rafferty 3. And obviously secondly PBB!

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?
I wanted to be a dancer from a young age! Once I got to high school I tossed up between becoming a Physio and a PE teacher. In a way I became something inbetween with my Pilates training!

SECRET TO SUCCESS?
Work hard, believe in yourself and don’t feel any jobs are below you! All the little jobs I have done along my journey to opening PBB have created a lot of experience and skills I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t experienced so many diverse roles.

HOW DO YOU TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF?
I aim to get at least 7 hours sleep a night and obviously I exercise nearly every day. I eat healthy food and allow myself treats on the weekend. I recently have been trying to fit in a massage every 3 weeks as the amount of classes I teach can be taxing on my body.

HOW DO WE GET BIKINI READY?
Increase your activity. Whether it be an extra class a week or walking to work. Combine cardio with some form of weight  training and cut the white stuff….no white bread, potatoes and sugar! Eat whole foods REAL food and cut out processed foods and alcohol. Try to drink 1-2 litres of water a day!

BEST MASSAGE?
I have a lovely Thai masseuse who is incredible. She’s a tiny little thing with the most powerful hands and feet! Unfortunately she has to go back to Thailand.

SECRET BEAUTY TIP?
Water, exercise, sleep.

DETOX WITH?
I don’t go on full detox diets however I can’t live without my Super Elixir every day. During the week I tend to have a super healthy diet.

RETOX WITH?
Red red wiiiiiinnne……LOVE.

FAVORITE WORKOUT (BESIDES PBB…)
I love Kobox! Unfortunately I really don’t get much free time after teaching, the three children and running a business! If I had time I’d love to get up to Barry’s Bootcamp and Psycle! To fit in a class it has to be at 6am so I usually roll out of bed and walk next door to PBB. We have so many varieties at PBB, Boxerina, Hiit and Tone, TRX, Pilates and numerous versions of PBB. I love them all!

FAVE WORKOUT GEAR?
Fortunately for me I have a lot of fitness gear given to me and I also sell it in the studio….How long do you want the list to be? Suki Shufu, Varley, Luca Hugh, Sweaty Betty, Peppa and Mayne, No Jiggle, Shadi, The Upside…

ALTERNATE CAREER? Restaurant/Café owner. I spent 17 years whilst living in Australia working in my father’s restaurants. My father had us working in his Italian restaurants from a young age. I loved it! My other passion is food, so you never know…..Watch this space.

LIFE PHILOSOPHY? Live for the now. Be positive about your future and don’t dwell on the past. It is all mind over matter.

MENTOR? I’d have to say my father was a big influence! He was and still is a hard worker. I got my work ethic from him. I also have many women in the health industry I really look up to for their hard work and the ability to juggle so many things. Number one would have to be Julie Montagu.
